Unfortunately for us guys like "Mr wonderful helped China succeed because of his greed and multiply oleary by thousands. China has moved past reverse engineering western stuff. Seen any high speed rail in North America lately? Germany couldn't make mag lev trains work, China does. They just refueled a Thorium molten salt reactor and no one has done that before. BYD builds better cheaper electric cars than anyone. China has built and locked in the supply chains for almost everything. European and US colonialists have been living off the global south for centuries and that's coming to an end and they won't be able to extract wealth through financial and compradors for much longer. They learned from us "the capitalists are so greedy they'll sell us the rope we hang them with!" As to government subsidies, DU, like Canada doesn't do it? China subsidizes local proven winners. Canada subsidizes foreign multi nationals. China has and is lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty while the working classes in the western countries have seen living standards dropping for 40 years while wealth is transferred upwards to parasites like O'Leary. As Cromwell said "In the bowels of Christ, I beseech thee, consider you may be wrong"! We Canada lost the chance to have a Free trade agreement with China when the US had us kidnap Ms Meng.
US manufacturing rose on the back of stolen European technology. It is what always happens when people charge too much for a product that someone thinks they can produce much more cheaply. I too have held patents for various devices and those ideas were stolen by large European and US conglomerates because I couldn't afford the yearly patent fees. The system is rigged against the little guys and now the US and Europe are the little guys it is far too late to find our long forgotten morality about thieving the ideas of others for personal gain.
Great job! We in the west tend to forget and paint collectivist countries much like our own. Nothing can be further from the truth... In the end, Every Chinese business outside of Taiwan, is Government-Owned and Controlled. Here we sit with our western illusions that Canada is the perfect combination, their people so well cared for, life is so lovely, but then we see how brutally the Truckers' Convoy was Crushed in Utopia North...
Unfortunately the Chinese hold on all this is very deep-rooted.
