Freedom Convoy Inspired Presidential Hopeful to Embrace Bitcoin as the Tool for Freedom
Robert F Kennedy, Vivek Ramaswamy & Tulsa Gabbard speak about Freedom at Bitcoin Miami 2023.
The 2023 Bitcoin conference played host to the most historic speech by a member of the Kennedy family since JFK himself immortalized the words "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" in the annals of history. This time, the fundamental principles espoused by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK) were freedom--specifically freedom of speech--and, most importantly, financial freedom - but we will delve into that later.
The Miami Beach Convention Centre hosted a smaller conference compared to the previous year due to several factors. One notable change was that Jordan Peterson was not the headliner of the conference. Additionally, FTX, the primary sponsor of the conference in 2022, had collapsed due to the exposure of its CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried's alleged crypto Ponzi scheme trading platform on his FTX platform.
For those new to Bitcoin, this incident involving FTX and its CEO SBF, highlighted the primary reasons why Bitcoin enthusiasts are skeptical of centralized cryptocurrencies governed by corporate entities. The centralized corporate entity is a pressure point that can be exploited by oppressive governments, like the Trudeau Regime, who tried and failed to block Bitcoin despite the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s (CBC) fabricated and false reporting. Censorship-resistant Bitcoin has no corporate entity, no board of directors, and no CEO. Ironically the legacy media class has yet to discover that Bitcoin is as bannable as the coronavirus.
My book, "Honking For Freedom," accurately tells the story of what happened leading up to and during the now world-famous Canadian Trucker Convoy, and I have dedicated two chapters to explaining the behind the scenes Bitcoin story, which has confused many unfamiliar with the Bitcoin protocol. Some people have been falsely manipulated by political actors who have used this unfamiliarity to defame convoy organizers like myself. Convoy Bitcoin supporters raised just over $1 million in Bitcoin for truckers, which remains the only money directly distributed to the truckers through paper wallets to those who remained in Ottawa the longest.
This is where Robert F. Kennedy Jr. enters the stage. In his historic speech at Bitcoin 2023, a slim and vibrant RFK captured the aura of his father and famous uncle. He expressed how it was the Canadian Truckers who made him realize that Bitcoin represented true freedom money.
"I got sold on Bitcoin when I saw what happened to the truckers in Canada.” I realized that Bitcoin was true freedom money when the Canadian Truckers had all their bank accounts seized," said Kennedy. He was referring to the freezing of bank accounts and other financial assets of myself and other convoy organizers and protesters something discussed in a previous substack.
Robert F. Kennedy cautioned against "the conviction, from either the right or the left, that "utopia will come through exercising perfect control over society." He added, "That works well as long as the good guys are in control or your guys are in control." But such power could easily be abused." He continued, "Utopia never quite arrives, and it's always just around the corner, as soon as the government takes away just a few more of your rights and whatever is left of your privacy."

Kennedy then laid out a 6 point policy commitment to bitcoin holders.
Defending self-custody: "As President, I will ensure your right to hold Bitcoin is inviolable. You should be able to hold your own private keys the same way you hold the keys to your car or own your wallet."
Nodes: "I will uphold the right to run a node at home. KYC (Know You Customer) requirements should be applied at the level of banks and exchanges, not at the level of nodes."
Bitcoin Mining: "I will defend energy-neutral use and neutral regulation of energy."
USA Bitcoin innovation: "I will ensure the US remains the global hub of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency technology."
Sensible Jurisdiction and Governance: "We must recognize that Bitcoin is not a security and should not be regulated as such."
Ross Ulbricht: "I will carefully consider whether individuals like Ross Ulbricht were prosecuted for actual crimes or as a means to crack down on crypto. If they were unjustly made an example of, I will consider pardoning them, and I will act very quickly to do so."
It is my belief that this will be a speech will age like a fine wine and be appreciated years into the future as the Bitcoin protocol grows and becomes increasingly more relevant in our daily lives. This belief is not anchored in support or rejection of RFK as a political candidate but rather in acknowledging the massive contribution he has made by using his influence to release his six policy points on financial security and freedom. With this speech RFK single-handedly shifted the Overton window of acceptable political speech among the political and lobbying class in favour of freedom. His skepticism of COVID policies has already solidified RFK as a respected voice, even among conservatives who see a need for accountability regarding how citizens were treated. I described our treatment as "insects" during my interview with Tucker Carlson on January 27th, 2022.
In addition to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Republican primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, the first millennial to seek the office of president, was a speaker at Bitcoin 2023.
Much like RFK, Vivek spoke about the dangers of quantitative easing, government money and why inflation results in citizens losing their savings and purchasing power over time. He echoed the threat to freedom posed by deceptive tactics within the current financial corporate and political structure. "Can't get the Green New Deal through Congress? No problem. Instead, we will use financial institutions to get every bank in this country to sign a climate pledge, effectively halting lending to Alaskan fossil fuel projects. They'll push the same agenda through the back door," he explained. "We now see that pattern repeating itself with Bank of America handing over data on individuals who withdrew money from their ATMs in cities like Washington D.C., around January 2021. This is the real threat to liberty and prosperity today."

Former Democratic senator Tulsi Gabbard, a prominent political figure, also spoke at Bitcoin 2023. She discussed why she left the Democratic Party, which she believes has abandoned the principles of freedom. "They make an example of those of us who dare to speak the truth and call out what is obvious to the rest of us about their insanity and hypocrisy, hoping that by making an example of us, they will cause the rest of us to self-censor and fall in line to comply," she said. This resonated with me because it perfectly articulates my experience with the Canadian conservative political establishment who behave in the exact same manor. They attack and smear those of us unwilling to go along with a false narratives.
The fact that these three prominent candidates RFK, Vivek and Tulsi gave keynote addresses at Bitcoin 2023 should give us hope that freedom will once again become politically fashionable in the near future. This conference serves as an excellent antidote to steelman Andrew Breitbart's famous quote, "politics is downstream from culture." As the culture of voters on all sides shifts away from the authoritarian state towards freedom, exposing the immoral practices of the political bureaucracy and cowardly politicians, we will continue to witness this shift accelerate. However, in the very shorty term the likelihood of authoritarian creep will increase as the legacy finance, corporate and political class struggle to maintain relevancy in the coming decentralized digital age.
All of these political figures are in stark contrast to the violent Trudeau regime, drunk on authoritarianism and refers to your personal savings as "Preloaded Stimulus." My American friends were quite shocked to see Chrystia Freeland ask her mob of supporters for ideas on how the government can access money held in your savings accounts. As one friend responded “the other term used to describe seizing personal property without permission is theft.”
Watch the below reaction from Nico, host of the Simply Bitcoin Podcast, as he listens to Freeland's declaration that property theft could be an “excellent idea.”

Despite the forthcoming challenges in both politics and the Bitcoin space, with bureaucrats drunk by authoritarianism, I am extremely positive about the long-term societal future in the West. Bitcoin 2023 was one of the most uplifting conventions I have attended throughout my years of attending conferences in a variety of different industries. The fact that these three prominent figures gave keynote addresses at Bitcoin 2023 should give us hope that freedom will once again become politically fashionable in the near future. This conference serves as an excellent antidote to steelman Andrew Breitbart's famous quote, "politics is downstream from culture." As our culture of voters on all sides shifts away from the authoritarian state towards freedom, exposing the immoral practices of the political bureaucracy and cowardly politicians, we will continue to witness this shift, in my opinion.
This intersection between politics, freedom, and Bitcoin has been growing ever since the Freedom Convoy, when Bitcoin saved many truckers' livelihoods. We must help further advocate for the importance of freedom within our facility, our communities and among our friends. On Wednesdays 1:00PM EST, Former Pro-hockey player Brandon Gentile and I will be hosting the Political Bitcoin Hour to help share strategies and ideas on how to help grow the shift towards greater freedoms and financial freedom through tools like Bitcoin. Regardless of our placement on the political spectrum or knowledge of Bitcoin, come together to embrace freedom, self-custody, the right to run a node, and the right to transact using Bitcoin without fear of government control and manipulation.
On June 17th, 2023, I will be speaking at the 1st Toronto Bitcoin Conference on July 17th. To get tickets and join us, visit https://canadianbitcoinconf.com. Tickets are limited.
