Excellent thought provoking article. Your presentation of the shortcomings of DEI is logical, sequential and straight forward. Thank you so much for writing this. Well done!

gee, whatever happened to industries and companies focusing on the product/service that they exist to make/provide?? instead vast amounts of resources are spent on virtue-signaling statements and putting on diversity workshops. I find it very difficult to believe that all these companies have qualified job applicants that are rejected for no other reason than their immutable characteristics. certainly its in NOBODY'S best interest to hire on the BASIS of immutable characteristics over actual qualifications. this is a no-brainer.

in the meantime, governments all over the world insist they have to protect us and keep us safe from hateful words and wrong ideas. god forbid they keep us safe from unqualified diversity hires. pffft.

the pilots were not Synergy employees … look it up. they were US citizens. the crew of the ship (22 people) were not, but they were not in charge of the ship when it collided with the bridge. it would be helpful to wait for more information to come out before drawing conclusions … same as what you point to with Lara and Steve. the Sallisaw bridge just took a hit from a barge; right into one of its support pillars … i’m sure it’s just DEI right? i’d rather not jump to conclusions before the facts are in

I enjoyed reading this article very much. I also like to wait until more information is available before I place blame. If the ship truly did lose power, I wondered why the ship directly hit the support. Your whirlpool suggested whirlpool explanation sounds very plausible.

However your explanation of the role of DEI is very intriguing. I do believe that Didn’t Earn It is likely a reason for many of the problems in Canada today.

Benjamin, I liked the fact that you took advantage of an opportunity to take a swipe at DEI which deserves all the abuse that we can throw at it. I don't like the fact that you felt obliged to dismiss Lara Logan's and Steve Bannon's comments about this disaster as unfounded speculation bordering on conspiracy theory. We all hate DEI but your own analysis that DEI is the cause of the disaster is unsubstantiated by even a shred of evidence. This takes us uncomfortably close to what is typically described as "unfounded speculation."

On the other hand, the folks whom you disparage have taken the time and trouble to do research and investigative reporting. Logan's comments appear in a Substack essay by Peggy Tierney that puts the pieces together in a different way, one that I find deeply disturbing but hard to discount:

We're all trying to make sense of what's going on these days. And untangling and separating the real conspiracies from the wacko conspiracy theories is some of the most challenging work that reporters face. So, let's not dismiss some of the best and brightest out there with a wave of our hand when there is no basis for a snap-judgment.

Exactly my sentiments as posted by myself on that fateful morning, as just one of any number of reasons one could speculate. But I want to float this by y’all. Even a complete moron who does the same task over and over again can pretty much be trusted to carry on carrying on. The ship was underway and all seemed just fine until it wasn’t. So what changed and why, and why regardless of whatever action was taken, did it head straight for a bridge support? You don’t need to be a DEI hire to pull that off. You need a special kind of talent far inferior or superior of a moron. And so, the investigation must continue and the black box will say it all. Even more so if there is data missing. It was the jab or climate change. Mark my words.

Just reading that DIE stuff makes me want to vomit. :(

I’m a retired sailor and am a bit concerned how so many people have concluded this as more than a major shipping catastrophe, over 46 years of ocean going tugs I’ve seen my share of disasters, I believe this is another one, unfortunately it killed people!

Here's another one, from 6 years ago, but in a different way.
