Thank you Freedom Convoy, for all your efforts. FYI: Here is the letter I sent to my MP. Laurel Collins (NDP) on Feb. 16 to support the cause. I laboured over it. I wanted my voice to be heard from way out on the West coast. I received an automated response that it had been received. I received nothing more; not even a form letter.

Dear Ms. Collins,

I am a 69-year-old retired healthcare professional living in Victoria. I have never contacted my MP before, but I am now. I did not vote for you and, in fact, I explained at length why, when you came to my door last Fall before the election. Although I have voted for the NDP in the past, I cannot support its current iteration under Jagmeet Singh and your party's current support for the Liberal's misguided actions with respect to the trucker protest in Ottawa.

The NDP traditionally has supported the working class but your party has lost the plot. I see the contempt, disgust and loathing from the ruling class, directed towards these hard-working people who do all the heavy lifting in this country. These are people who have useful skills that keep the economy functioning. They may be rough around the edges but they are the people that I want around in an emergency. They know how to get things done. They are much smarter than the university educated, upper-middle class, “fancy” people give them credit for. I am deeply disturbed by the rampant classism being demonstrated by the elites (including the champagne socialists in the NDP) who haven’t suffered in any meaningful way during the pandemic while nodding through their Zoom calls and collecting their pay cheques. Have these people lost their humanity for all the people of this country who do the dirty work that makes their lives so comfortable?

I have been watching in horror and extreme sadness at the complete destruction of my country by the Liberals under Justin Trudeau who have been propped up repeatedly by the NDP.

I have watched Jagmeet Singh saying he supports the Emergencies Act and the use of the military while also claiming he wants to see people be safe and not lose their jobs. By almost all standards the protest in Ottawa has been peaceful and joyous. The truckers are breaking the most basic of municipal laws. Things like protesting without a permit and parking illegally. They are the ones who have lost their jobs along with many others and they are arguably the only people who are not “safe” in this country at the moment. Their safety is being threatened by the government.

I have watched dozens of hours of livestreaming on the ground in Ottawa, read dozens of opinion pieces on all sides and listened to endless misrepresentations by the legacy media. I am not a low information citizen. Please don’t insult me by assuming that I don’t know what I am talking about and, therefore, don’t matter. I have watched the people in downtown Ottawa greet and hug each other and sing and dance. I have been bought to tears by realizing how truly starved we are for the hope, joy and human contact that has been taken away from us through the last 2 years.

It didn’t have to be this way. Many mistakes were made and poor policies rolled out that need to be stopped NOW because they do not work and that should NEVER be allowed to be repeated. We have been crushed as a people. The damage done will last a lifetime if not more. The damage to school-aged children has been particularly abhorrent. Yet I suspect that the experts will never acknowledge this or apologize and promise to do better. (I am in a position to opine on this. I have spent many hours every day, while (mostly) confined to my house for two years, researching all the ins and outs of this pandemic. I know how to read research papers. When I don’t understand, I know where to go to get further information. I know how to weed out the wheat from the chaff. I am a relentless researcher.)

Enacting the Emergencies Act is the political power grab of a naïve, arrogant, entitled man-child who can’t get his way. The border blockades have ended. There is no threat to the country. The truckers only want their grievances to be heard, but Justin Trudeau refuses to talk to them. That should have been the first step to de-escalate the situation. Instead, Justin Trudeau went for the nuclear option rather than deal with the working class, “unwashed” masses who hold “unacceptable views”. His disdain for these people will not be forgotten. He is not a leader but a divider who your party is supporting. How can you justify this?

I am asking you to vote against enacting this unnecessary, divisive and dangerous law. Voting for it makes you complicit in unknown damage to this country. Canada is a place with wonderful people and so much potential that could be thrown away in the days to come because of thoughtless, incompetent leadership. Don’t be on the wrong side of history. There are more productive ways to solve this impasse. I am asking you to speak up for and support them.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Thank you! Thank you! More than anything the Freedom Convoy revealed, and educated us all, on our political system, policing system, and banking system.
